TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs has repatriated the bodies of Indonesian citizens who were victims of a fire in Hong Kong.
"In handling deceased Indonesian citizens/migrant worker victims, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs through the Directorate of the Protection of Indonesian Citizens, in collaboration with the Indonesian Consulate General in Hong Kong (KJRI Hong Kong), has facilitated the repatriation process of nine deceased Indonesian citizens/migrant worker victims of the incident from Hong Kong to Indonesia," according to a statement from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Jakarta on Monday, December 22, 2025, as quoted by Antara.
Based on the information, the body of the late N arrived at Soekarno-Hatta International Airport, Tangerang, Banten, on December 21, 2025, at 11:00 PM WIB (Western Indonesia Time).
The body was then handed over to the family in Indramayu, West Java. Meanwhile, the bodies of eight other Indonesian citizens and migrant workers are scheduled to arrive in Indonesia gradually on 23-25 December 2025.
The cost of repatriating the eight bodies to Indonesia is fully covered by the Foreign Affairs Ministry. Meanwhile, one body is funded by the employer.
Of the nine bodies, one is from West Java, and three are from Central Java. They will be repatriated through Soekarno-Hatta International Airport in Tangerang, Banten.
Meanwhile, five bodies from East Java will be repatriated through Juanda International Airport, Surabaya, East Java, and then handed over to their respective families in their home regions.
The Directorate of the Protection of Indonesian Citizens of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Indonesian Consulate General in Hong Kong urge the families of the victims and the public to remain cautious about inaccurate information and offers from irresponsible parties.
The ministry emphasizes that they will continue to coordinate with the Hong Kong authorities to ensure that the entire process of settling the rights of the affected Indonesian citizens and migrant workers due to the fire incident can be carried out accurately, decently, and oriented towards the interests of the victims and their families.
The fire incident at Wang Fuk Court residential complex in Tai Po, Hong Kong, occurred on Wednesday, November 26, 2025.
According to official data from the Fire Services Department (FSD) until December 9, 2025, the incident resulted in 160 deaths and 79 serious injuries.
Since the beginning of the incident, the Directorate of the Protection of Indonesian Citizens and the Indonesian Consulate General in Hong Kong have been actively coordinating with the Hong Kong Police Force (HKPF), Labour Department, and other authorized authorities in Hong Kong to ensure comprehensive handling of the affected Indonesian citizens and migrant workers.
Out of an estimated 140 domestic Indonesian citizens and migrant workers residing in the affected area, 130 have been confirmed safe, 9 have died, and 1 person has not yet been confirmed of their whereabouts and condition.
