TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesia’s Minister of Creative Economy Teuku Riefky Harsya said five countries accounted for the largest investments in the country’s creative economy sector during the first three quarters of 2025: Singapore, Hong Kong, the United States, South Korea, and China.
Speaking at the Ekraf Annual Report 2025 event at Thamrin Nine in Jakarta on Monday, December 22, 2025, Riefky said total investment in Indonesia’s creative economy reached Rp132 trillion between January and September 2025.
Singapore emerged as the largest investor, contributing Rp26.52 trillion during the period, up from Rp15.59 trillion in the same period last year. Investment from Hong Kong rose to Rp12.55 trillion from Rp10.52 trillion year on year.
The United States recorded investment of Rp7.69 trillion, slightly down from Rp7.96 trillion in the first three quarters of 2024. South Korea’s investment increased to Rp6.59 trillion from Rp4.49 trillion, while China’s investment more than doubled to Rp4.83 trillion from Rp2.28 trillion.
“From the perspective of provinces attracting the most investors, investment remains concentrated in Java,” Riefky said.
He added that the Ministry of Creative Economy plans to push investment into regions outside Java. This strategy is outlined in the draft presidential regulation on the Creative Economy Master Plan 2026–2045, as well as in policies aimed at strengthening creative economy institutions at the regional level.
By subsector, foreign investment over the first nine months of 2025 was led by applications, which attracted Rp40.94 trillion. This was followed by fashion at Rp26 trillion, crafts at Rp22.37 trillion, and culinary businesses at Rp20.38 trillion.
Other subsectors included advertising at Rp4.62 trillion, music at Rp4.25 trillion, visual arts at Rp2.94 trillion, publishing at Rp2.53 trillion, and performing arts at Rp2.42 trillion. Investment in game development reached Rp1.86 trillion, while film, animation, and video recorded Rp1.64 trillion.
Product design attracted Rp1.01 trillion, followed by television and radio at Rp490 billion, architecture at Rp320 billion, visual communication design at Rp110 billion, interior design at Rp80 billion, and photography at Rp10 billion.
“This indicates a positive growth trend for digital-based creative sectors in Indonesia,” Riefky said.
He added that the data covers seven subsectors designated as priorities under President Prabowo Subianto’s Medium-Term Development Plan (RPJMN), including applications. This priority subsector encompasses fintech, e-commerce, artificial intelligence-based services, entertainment platforms, and other digital industries.
