TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesia's Ministry of Industry revealed that the export value of the sports equipment industry reached US$84.78 million in the January-August 2025 period. Reni Yanita, the Director General of Small, Medium, and Miscellaneous Industry at the Ministry of Industry, stated that the Trademap report noted a 24.7 percent increase compared to the same period in 2024.
"These figures not only demonstrate a great economic potential but also hold significant social meaning as sports represent the pride of our nation's work," she said in a written statement on Saturday, November 8, 2025.
Reni also mentioned that the sports equipment industry in Indonesia has grown significantly over the past decade. According to a report from Statista, this sector grew to reach US$500 billion.
This sector continues to face challenges, including dependence on imported raw materials, foreign product dominance, limited export access, and high costs associated with meeting international certification standards. To address these issues, the Ministry of Industry encourages business players to increase the value of the Domestic Component Level (TKDN).
Data from the Ministry of Industry in 2024 showed that 36 sports equipment businesses already had products with high TKDN, some reaching 66 percent. "These products include futsal balls, rackets, shuttlecocks, table tennis tables, and volleyballs," she said.
The Ministry provides technical training and mentoring for small-scale industries, as well as machinery and equipment. The sponsorship mechanism is also strengthened to support international certifications such as FIFA Quality Programme, BWF Approved Equipment, and ITF Approved Product, in collaboration with the Cooperative of Indonesian Sports Struggle (KOJI) under the guidance of the National Sports Committee of Indonesia (KONI).
The Ministry of Industry and KONI have signed a memorandum of understanding to strengthen the use of domestic sports equipment products in various national sports activities.
"We hope that domestic products can be recognized globally and used in professional events," Reni added.
In terms of employment, a report by Ken Research also revealed that the sports equipment industry had absorbed 15,663 workers in 2023. This number was absorbed from 128 existing business units. The domestic market value absorbed was around Rp2.3 trillion in that year.
Minister of Industry Agus Gumiwang Kartasasmita stated that the Ministry of Industry continues to strengthen the sports sector to dominate the domestic market and compete in the global market. Cross-sectoral collaboration programs are also being pursued for competition in this industry.
"We want to make Indonesia not only a consumer but also a leading producer of quality sports equipment in the world," said Agus.
One of the efforts made is to hold the Indonesia Sport Facility Expo (ISFEX) from 6th to 9th November 2025 in BSD City, Tangerang Regency. This event promotes products and business networking and facilitates the exchange of ideas and the formation of continued cooperation among industry players, associations, and communities.
