TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesia will officially host the 12th World Science Forum (WSF) which will be held in 2026. The Secretary General of the Agency for the Assessment and Application of Technology (AAAT) and the National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN), Nur Tri Aries Suestiningtyas, stated that the announcement was made during the closing of the 11th WSF at the Hungarian Parliament Building in Budapest on November 20-23, 2024.
"It is very challenging because we know that this is a highly reputable and prestigious event for the scientific community and various parties," he said, quoted from the World Science Forum's YouTube channel on Wednesday, November 27, 2024.
The World Science Forum connects the scientific community, policymakers, media, industry, and the global community to discuss the role of science in addressing global challenges. The meeting aims to gain new insights into science and policy, as well as science diplomacy. Countries that attend, said Suestiningtyas, can learn from each other's science.
Indonesia will also promote the economy based on energy transition and contribute to environmental sustainability. "We will focus more on how the wealth of our biodiversity and energy can contribute to the development of science, and pay attention to the differences in various parts of the world and provide solutions," he said.
The agenda of the 12th WSF, which is planned to be held in Jakarta, will focus on the broad theme 'Science for Resilience and Equality'. In a bilateral meeting with the President of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences (MTA), Indonesia expressed its commitment to host the WSF by addressing global crucial issues, such as transformation, equality, and policy efficiency in the field of science.
Previously, Suestiningtyas revealed that Indonesia's selection as the host was the result of a rigorous selection process, competing with the Turkish Academy of Sciences and Vietnam.
