TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesia's Ministry of Transportation stated that the government has decided to lower airfares or airplane ticket prices for domestic flights during the Christmas 2024 and New Year 2025 holiday period (Nataru) at all airports in Indonesia. This policy is a direct order from President Prabowo Subianto to help the public reduce the cost of air travel.

Ministry of Transportation Spokesperson Elba Damhuri stated that the government has lowered domestic airplane ticket prices by 10 percent after President Prabowo Subianto held a limited meeting (ratas) with the Minister of Transportation and several other ministers at the Merdeka Palace.

"As a result, the government agreed to lower the airplane ticket prices for domestic flights by 10 percent during Nataru, at all airports in Indonesia," she said in an official statement received by Tempo on Thursday, November 28, 2024.

She mentioned that to realize the minimum 10 percent ticket price reduction (excluding VAT) is the result of collaboration from various parties, including airlines, PT Angkasa Pura Indonesia, PT Pertamina, and AirNav. All are asked to reduce costs such as fuel surcharge, Air Passenger Service Tariff (PJP2U), and avtur prices at several airports.

Specifically for PT Pertamina Persero Group, they will provide support for lowering avtur prices during the Nataru period at 19 airports in Indonesia. Some of them are Denpasar, Surabaya, Medan, Silangit, Lombok, Labuan Bajo, Manado, Yogyakarta Kulon Progo, Pontianak, Ambon, Makassar, Balikpapan, Kupang, Sorong, Timika, Jayapura, Maumere, Nabire, and Biak airports.

"PT Pertamina Persero Group will provide support during Nataru by lowering avtur selling prices in the range of 7.5 percent up to 10 percent," she said.

Furthermore, regarding the adjustment of airport service tariffs, PT Angkasa Pura Indonesia along with all Airport Service Unit (UPBU) under the Ministry of Transportation will reduce PJP2U and PJP4U tariffs by 50 percent each. However, PT Angkasa Pura Indonesia is still awaiting confirmation from the Ministry of State-Owned Enterprises to ensure that Soekarno-Hatta (CGK) and Ngurah Rai (DPS) airports can participate.

Meanwhile, airlines have agreed to provide an 8 percent discount on jet fuel surcharge, reducing it to 2 percent, and a 5 percent discount on propeller, reducing it to 20 percent. AirNav will also extend operational hours during the Christmas and New Year (Nataru) period to support airline needs.

This tariff adjustment will be applied for 16 days during the Christmas 2024 and New Year 2025 period, starting from December 19, 2024 to January 3, 2025. "For passengers who have purchased tickets for flights during that period, incentives can be given according to each airline's policy if still feasible," she said.

She expressed her hope that this decision will enable the public to travel by airplane comfortably. She also believes that this decision can boost the economy and domestic tourism in the last quarter of 2024.
