TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesia's local coffee brand Smartfolks Coffee received the Leading in Coffee F&B Chain Excellence Award at the China ASEAN Outstanding Business Awards 2024 on December 7, 2024.
Muhammad Fariz Surbakti, Director of Smartfolks Coffee, said that this award is a source of pride for the Indonesian people as Indonesia is one of the world's largest coffee producers and exporters.
"Smartfolks Coffee's main vision is to provide the best quality coffee at affordable prices. We certainly want to invite people to enjoy good quality local coffee. This award is also a source of pride for Indonesia as it shows the existence of the Indonesian coffee industry on the international stage," Fariz said in his statement on Tuesday, December 10, 2024.
Fariz said the upstream coffee industry in Indonesia is dominated by smallholders. Indonesia needs to increase coffee productivity to create jobs and sources of income for the community, especially coffee farmers in Indonesia.
"This achievement is certainly related to the strong support from the coffee enthusiast segment, the strong commitment of a dedicated team, and of course the Indonesian coffee farmers where Smartfolks itself produces local coffee from Aceh Gayo," said Fariz.
Smartfolks Coffee is currently one of the top coffee brands in Indonesia with a wide network. Established in 2019, Smartfolks Coffee has more than 80 stores in Indonesia. The increase in the number of stores opened by Smartfolks Coffee, especially in 2022 after Covid-19, has increased coffee production, thereby helping coffee farmers in Indonesia.
Since 2019, Smartfolks Coffee has been welcoming investors and expanding to meet the growing demand for Indonesian coffee. "By using local coffee, we are present from Indonesia for Indonesia," said Witarsih, Chief of Operational Smartfolks Coffee.
