TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Indonesian Embassy (KBRI) in Phnom Penh has issued an urgent advisory urging Indonesian citizens residing in Cambodia to remain calm, vigilant, and fully adhere to appeals from local authorities regarding the security situation along the Cambodia-Thailand border.
In a press release received by Antara in Jakarta on Monday, the Embassy stated: "Indonesian citizens are advised to avoid or limit travel to the provinces of Preah Vihear, Oddar Meanchey, and Banteay Meanchey, which are currently affected by the conflict."
The advisory follows a recent escalation, including an air strike launched by Thailand early Monday after clashes reportedly killed one Thai soldier and injured four others at the border.
The embassy stresses that Indonesian citizens must obtain information exclusively from official sources, including Cambodian authorities, verified media outlets, or the official communication channels of the Indonesian Embassy in Phnom Penh.
Indonesian citizens are also earnestly requested to register their presence on the Peduli WNI portal at www.peduliwni.kemlu.go.id. This registration is crucial for expediting necessary communication with the Indonesian Embassy in Phnom Penh.
"For those requiring immediate assistance, Indonesian citizens can contact the dedicated hotline of the Indonesian Embassy in Phnom Penh via WhatsApp at +855 12 813 282 and +855 61 844 661," the embassy confirmed.
The embassy confirmed its continuous monitoring of the situation and its efforts to strengthen communication with the Indonesian expatriate community across various provinces. This includes tracking the developments of tension between the two nations via media reporting.
Cambodia and Thailand had previously agreed to an unconditional ceasefire on July 28, 2025, after a preceding shootout in May 2025 claimed the life of a Cambodian soldier and escalated the conflict across twelve border points in July 2025.
The official peace accord between the two neighboring countries was formally executed during a ceremony held on the periphery of the ASEAN Summit in Kuala Lumpur on October 26, 2025, an event attended by U.S. President Donald Trump.
The embassy affirms its readiness to furnish protection and emergency assistance to Indonesian citizens, while simultaneously observing security developments at the border and adjusting mitigation measures commensurate with field conditions.
