TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Hotel bookings by foreign tourists in Indonesia rose by 26 percent in December 2024, according to SiteMinder, a leading global hotel distribution and revenue platform.
Hotel bookings by foreign travelers account for 65 percent of the total bookings throughout this month, up by 51 percent compared to last year.
This surge also led to a 4 percent year-on-year increase in overall hotel bookings during the year-end holiday season in Indonesia, from December 21 to 31.
The surge lines up with the increased length of stay and waitlist for year-end holiday bookings. This indicates the growing confidence in international travel and the return of early bookings.
The average length of stay booked during the year-end holiday period is expected to increase by 7 percent year-on-year, from 2.25 days to 2.42 days, while the average booking waitlist is estimated to grow by 16 percent year-on-year, from 79 days to 91 days.
In addition, hotels and accommodation providers in Indonesia are also experiencing room rate hikes during the holiday season, with the average daily rate (ADR) increasing from Rp3,705,515 last year to Rp4,291,479 this year.
Rio Ricaro, Country Manager of SiteMinder in Indonesia, revealed that the year-end holiday period in the country has always been a unique attraction for international and domestic tourists.
"We are delighted to witness that again this year,” he remarked in a written statement on Monday, December 9, 2024.
According to Rio, year-end holiday plans of returning to hometowns and spending time with friends and families, or simply relaxing and enjoying what the islands of Indonesia have to offer will bring significant revenue for hotels towards the end of 2024.
Hospitality businesses can capitalize on these tourist visits by providing unforgettable holiday experiences. As revealed in SiteMinder's Changing Traveller Report 2025, two-thirds, or 65 percent, of global tourists are now more likely to travel for an event, especially one related to family gatherings.
While 46 percent plan to book standard rooms, most will splurge royally on other important aspects, and 87 percent are willing to spend money on extras like breakfast, room size, and views. Four in five people also intend to seek a variety of experiences at their accommodation.
