TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesian Politician and Minister of Housing and Settlement Area, Maruarar Sirait, organized a fugitive manhunt competition to capture the fugitive in the corruption case, Harun Masiku. He was frustrated that the fugitive had not been captured for years and is prepared to provide a prize of Rp8 billion for whoever finds him.
"What's wrong with me giving that (Rp8 billion). Public participation, that's personal money," said Maruarar Sirait when met by reporters at Manggarai Station, Jakarta after visiting the Perumnas and PT KAI assets, on Wednesday, November 27, 2024.
According to Ara, his nickname, the country must not lose to corruptors. He believes that no one should be immune to the law in Indonesia. "There has been no progress for a long time, so I took personal initiative, it's allowed is it not?" he said.
Furthermore, this former politician from the PDI Perjuangan Party considers that the community responds positively to the initiative he is taking. He said that this step can bring this case back into the spotlight.
"Why is that person so great, hasn't been found for how many years, there's no trace of him. Now this issue is back in the open, heating up again. Of course, journalists can seek help and potentially earn the Rp8 billion," he said.
For information, Harun Masiku is a suspect in a bribery case involving civil servants for the appointment of elected members of the Indonesian House of Representatives for the 2019-2024 period by the General Election Commission (KPU). He has been a fugitive or on the KPK's Wanted List since January 17, 2020.
Harun was a suspect in a bribery case involving 2017-2022 KPU Commissioner Wahyu Setiawan (W). The bribe was suspected to secure Harun's position as a representative of the PDIP Faction in the House of Representatives, replacing Nazarudin Kiemas who passed away in March 2019. However, Harun Masiku consistently evaded KPK investigators' summons and was placed on the Wanted List.
