TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Indonesian Navy (TNI AL) warship, KRI Bontang-907, is ready to sail to Sibolga, North Sumatra, on Sunday, December 7, 2025. This tanker ship sailed from the Indonesian Military Sealift Command (Kolinlamil) headquarters in Tanjung Priok, Jakarta.
Naval Information Service Chief of the Indonesian Navy First Admiral TNI Tunggul stated that the deployment of this naval tanker ship is to support the fuel needs of the Defense and Security Equipment (Alpalhankam) and the community affected by the Sumatra disaster. KRI Bontang-907 carries 2,000 kiloliters of fuel oil.
In addition to carrying fuel oil, the KRI Bontang-907 also transports essential supplies, including tens of tons of food, clothing, and medication, to communities in need.
"KRI Bontang, a tanker warship carrying 2,000 kiloliters of diesel, is currently still in the process of loading the fuel that will be distributed to affected areas," said Tunggul in his official statement on Sunday.
Tunggul stated that KRI Bontang-907 will depart soon after the loading is completed. This tanker ship plays a crucial role in ensuring fuel availability in disaster-affected areas that are inaccessible by land.
As of now, Indonesian Navy personnel on standby in Sumatra have distributed logistics and community needs. Two of them are hospital support ships, namely KRI dr. Soeharso-990 is positioned on the east coast of Sumatra, and KRI dr. Radjiman Wedyodiningrat-992 is placed on the west coast.
"Up to now, the Indonesian Navy has deployed 14 KRI of various types, and for air power, there are 7, including 5 helicopters and 2 CN aircraft," said Tunggul. "In addition, the Indonesian Navy has deployed Marine Health Battalions and Regional Commands in the disaster-affected locations, namely Kodaeral I and Kodaeral II. The involvement of Indonesian Navy personnel as of now amounts to 3,452 personnel."
According to data from the National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB), the number of disaster refugees in Sumatra has reached 849,000. Meanwhile, the number of deaths as of Sunday has reached 940, and 276 people are missing.
