Iran Says It Seeks to Prevent Escalation into World War III

8 hours ago 8

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The government of Iran asserts its stance to prevent the escalation of the ongoing conflict in the Middle East region. The Iranian Ambassador to Indonesia, Mohammad Boroujerdi, stated that despite Iran's military capability and offers of assistance from allied countries, they chose not to drag other countries into the conflict.

"Iran wants to prevent the war from taking on an international dimension, to prevent the beginning of the Third World War. Iran wants to promote peace," said Boroujerdi when Tempo met him at his residence in Menteng, Central Jakarta, on Thursday, July 10, 2025.

The Issue of Purchasing Chinese Fighter Jets

This statement was made amidst reports by several international media outlets that Iran is exploring the possibility of purchasing J-10 fighter jets from China. As reported by Newsweek, the Chinese government, through the Defense Ministry spokesperson, Jiang Bin, expressed readiness to share the results of its military equipment development with "friendly countries."

However, Boroujerdi emphasized that Iran's goal is not to escalate the situation, but to strengthen national defense without expanding the conflict. "Iran has proven that we are capable, capable of defending ourselves well, and we have proven that," he said.

Avoiding Intervention in the Conflict

Boroujerdi explained that during the last 12 days of the ongoing war, Zionist Israel has been trying to draw other countries into the war, causing the conflict to evolve into an international war. He stated that Israel's aggression has failed.

According to him, Israel's aggression would not have been possible without the support of the United States and European countries. "Zionists are not alone; if the Zionists were alone, they would not dare to attack Iran," he said. Although Iran has also received offers of assistance from allies, it chose not to welcome them. "What we are doing is different, Iran is not responding and not accepting it," said Boroujerdi.

The Iranian ambassador added that if pressure on Israel were managed properly and the country were not supported by Western powers, there would be no arms race in the region. "If the Zionists are dealt with properly, if they are not supported, then in the Middle East, there is no such thing as a competition to produce or purchase advanced weaponry," said Boroujerdi. Thus, he believes that security and peace will be well maintained in the Middle East.
