TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Jakarta Governor-elect Pramono Anung said he is ready to address the issue of bicycle lanes, which he currently considers inadequate. Pram, as he is familiarly called, plans to start addressing this issue after being inaugurated as governor on February 6, 2025.
"This (bicycle lane) is the task of anyone who will become the leader of Jakarta. Including when I am inaugurated on February 6," he said in a casual chat event about Jakarta as a Bicycle-Friendly City held at Kedai Halangan, South Jakarta, Sunday, January 26, 2025.
The politician from the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle said that the current bicycle lanes are inadequate. According to him, one of the main causes is the less than optimal implementation of bicycle-related policies. "There are bicycle lanes but there are parking spaces, places for motorbikes to pass, and then there are also people selling things."
Previously, while still campaigning as a gubernatorial candidate, Pram had criticized the bicycle lanes built during the era of Governor Anies Baswedan. In fact, he considered that at that time Anies Baswedan built them half-heartedly.
"What Mr. Anies has done to the bicycle lanes is not going well right now, half-heartedly," said Pramono after cycling in the SCBD area, South Jakarta, Saturday, September 14, 2024.
Pramono assessed that basically the bicycle lanes made by Anies when he was still the governor of Jakarta were good, but still not optimal because there were still motorbike users on the lane.
"Actually it's good, but it's not finished so it hasn't been fully felt by cyclists. And, in the end, the ones who use (the bicycle lanes) the most are motorbikes," he said.
The former Cabinet Secretary said that he and Rano Karno would fix the shortcomings of the bicycle lanes if they won the regional head election or the Jakarta Pilkada.
In addition, the Head of the Pramono Anung and Rano Karno transition team, Ima Mahdiah, said that the elected governor and deputy governor of Jakarta would attend the inauguration of the regional head on February 6, 2025. Ima also claimed that the two pairs would immediately carry out their duties as regional heads.
"It's ready. So when he was inaugurated on February 6, he was ready," said Ima when met in the Jakarta City Hall area, on Friday, January 24, 2025.
Ima said that Pramono and Rano's preparations for their inauguration had reached 70 percent. He said that his team is currently in the finalization stage of the work program to support the transition process from the previous government. "We are already at 70 percent," said Ima.
