TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Jakarta Provincial Government has announced that public transportation will be free for two days to celebrate the New Year. The policy, effective from Wednesday, December 31, 2025, until 11:59 p.m. on January 1, 2026, aims to reduce traffic congestion during the festivities.
Governor Pramono Anung Wibowo confirmed that all city-managed transport services are included in this initiative. "After internal discussions, we decided to provide free transportation for all modes managed by the Jakarta Provincial Government," Pramono stated on Wednesday.
The free fare applies to the MRT, LRT, and Transjakarta. However, passengers are still required to tap their electronic money cards (KMT or bank cards) at the gates. A nominal fee of Rp1 will be deducted per trip for data collection and passenger tracking purposes.
To accommodate the late-night crowds, several services will extend their operations into the early hours of January 1:
MRT and LRT Jakarta: Both rail systems will operate until 2:00 a.m.
Transjakarta: Strategic routes will run until 2:00 a.m., including Pantai Maju-Balai Kota (1A), Blok M-Ancol (1W), Kampung Rambutan-Blok M (7B), and Pasar Minggu-Tanah Abang (9D), among others.
Mikrotrans: A total of 87 Mikrotrans routes will operate on an extended schedule from 5:00 AM to 12:30 a.m.
Ayu Wardhani, Head of Public Relations and CSR at Transjakarta, encouraged the public to take advantage of the services. "We hope commuters can plan their journeys comfortably and enjoy the New Year’s Eve celebrations without worrying about transportation access," she said.
