TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Cyber Detective Directorate (Ditressiber) of Jakarta Metropolitan Police has reported handling a total of 2,727 police reports on cybercrime throughout 2025. This figure is part of the 4,271 reports received from January to December 2025.

The Director of Cyber Detective at Jakarta Metropolitan Police, Grand Commissioner Roberto Pasaribu, explained that the distribution of case handling is divided into two levels of work units. "Ditressiber of Jakarta Metropolitan Police directly handled a total of 2,727 reports, while 1,544 reports were transferred to the regional police for follow-up," said Roberto in a year-end release at Polda Metro Jaya on Wednesday, December 31, 2025.

Case Details

  • Online Fraud (Scam): 1,951 reports
  • Illegal Access: 1,011 reports
  • Threats and Extortion: 424 reports
  • Defamation: 333 reports
  • Electronic Document Manipulation: 199 reports
  • Pornography and Distribution of Obscene Content: 154 reports

Breakthrough in Victim Fund Recovery

One crucial achievement in 2025 was the success of the police in facilitating the recovery of assets to the victims in 424 cases of online fraud. However, Roberto emphasized the importance of the time factor in reporting. "The return of funds can be effectively carried out if the victim reports within less than six hours," he said.

The police, in collaboration with the Ministry of Communication and Digital (Komdigi) and the Financial Transaction Reports and Analysis Center (PPATK), have established an anti-scam reporting center through the Metrojaya.id website. Victims can report online fraud by filling in their personal information, after which they will be connected in a video call with an officer.

If the officers find remaining balances in the perpetrator's holding account, emergency blocking will be immediately carried out to minimize losses.

Although the reporting technology is already available, Roberto said the main obstacle in the field is the psychology of the victims. Often, victims only realize they have been deceived after the critical period has passed. "On average, victims only realize they have been scammed after more than 24 hours. Whereas, the greatest chance of fund recovery is in the first few hours," he said.

As a long-term mitigation step, the Jakarta Metropolitan Police continues to promote digital literacy education. In addition to conducting Cyber Patrols to detect negative content, the police also widely disseminate educational posters through social media and messaging applications such as WhatsApp and Telegram to strengthen public awareness in the digital space.
