Jakarta's Air Quality Returns to Unhealthy Category, with Depok and Tangerang Worse

TEMPO.CO, JakartaIQAir application recorded the air quality in Jakarta deteriorating again today, Friday, November 8, 2024, compared to the previous days. When monitored until 06.45 WIB this morning, the Air Quality Index (AQI) for DKI was recorded at 164 or categorized as 'Unhealthy'.

The fine particles or PM2.5 concentration in DKI reached 73.5 micrograms per cubic meter. "The concentration of PM2.5 in Jakarta is 14.7 times the annual air quality guidance value of the World Health Organization (WHO)," as stated on IQAir's official website this Friday morning.

Following moderate to heavy rain earlier this month, the air quality in Jakarta briefly entered the 'Moderate' category on Tuesday, November 5. With an AQI level of 93, the air quality in Jakarta at that time was only slightly below the 'Good' category. The air was generally normal to breathe for healthy residents, while sensitive groups should reduce outdoor activities.

The AQI in Jakarta started to climb to 121 on Wednesday, November 6, and then jumped to 153 the following day. The 'Unhealthy' category continued until this morning when the air humidity in DKI reached 88 percent and the temperature was around 26 degrees Celsius.

According to the latest IQAir data, Jakarta's AQI level is lower than that of three other surrounding areas. The AQI in South Tangerang reached 200, followed by Tangerang City, with AQI 188, and Depok City, 171.

Jakarta is currently ranked 7th among the most polluted cities in the world. According to the latest IQAir observation, the two countries with the highest recorded pollution levels are Lahore in Pakistan and Delhi in India.
