TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) Spokesperson Tessa Mahardhika Sugiarto believes that the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDIP) will cooperate in the alleged bribery case involving its secretary-general, Hasto Kristiyanto.
"I am sure there will be no intervention as is the case in the field at the moment," Tessa said in a press conference at the KPK building, Tuesday, January 7, 2025. She also believes that PDIP will comply with the law enforcement process as conveyed by Hasto's legal team.
Tessa said that the investigation is currently running smoothly. Investigators have also searched Hasto's residence to collect evidence. The search took place on Tuesday afternoon, at Hasto's house located on Jalan Asri 7, Taman Villa Kartini, East Bekasi District, Bekasi City. "And of course investigators will also reschedule the examination of Mr. HK," said Tessa.
The KPK announced Hasto's determination on Tuesday afternoon, December 24, 2024. Hasto was named a suspect in a bribery case involving PDIP politician Harun Masiku against KPU Commissioner for the 2017-2022 period Wahyu Setiawan.
After being named a suspect, Hasto was scheduled to be questioned on Monday. However, the examination was canceled because Hasto argued that he already had another agenda.
Previously, KPK Chair Setyo Budiyanto said that Hasto had a vital role in the bribery case. Setyo conveyed this when announcing Hasto's determination as a suspect.
Hasto is suspected of helping Harun Masiku to escape. Harun is a PDIP cadre who is also a suspect in this case. Until now, Harun is still a fugitive.
Based on the KPK's investigation, according to Setyo, Hasto played a role starting from providing the bribe money. The KPK found the source of the bribe money from Hasto. "Some of the bribe money came from HK, that's from the results we have obtained so far," said Setyo.
The Harun Masiku bribery case against Wahyu Setiawan began with the KPK's sting operation against Wahyu and several PDIP cadres on January 8, 2020. Wahyu is suspected of accepting bribes to smooth the process of replacing members of the DPR for the 2019-2024 period from PDIP in the South Sumatra Electoral District 1.
The PAW process began when the PDIP legislative candidate from the South Sumatra Electoral District I, Nazarudin Kiemas, died three weeks before voting in the 2019 Election. Nazarudin was the PDIP legislative candidate with the most votes in the electoral district in the 2019 Election. In accordance with the provisions of the Election Law, the replacement for a candidate who dies or for other reasons is the legislative candidate with the next most votes in the relevant electoral district, namely Riezky Aprilia.
However, PDIP asked the KPU to replace him with the party's chosen candidate, namely Harun Masiku. Harun was the fifth vote winner in South Sumatra Electoral District 1 in the 2019 Election. To smooth things over, the PDIP then lobbied the KPU commissioner at that time, Wahyu Setiawan.
The PDIP's request ended in failure on January 7, 2020. But the alleged bribe money to smooth the PAW process had been given to Wahyu Setiawan. After confirming the flow of money, the KPK arrested Wahyu and PDIP cadre Saeful Bahri.
The KPK also wanted to arrest Harun Masiku in the arrest operation. But Harun Masiku fled towards the Police Science College (PTIK) campus, in the Kebayoran Baru area, South Jakarta. He also disappeared from the police campus. Until now, Harun Masiku has the status of a KPK fugitive.
