TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Jakarta Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) has issued a warning about the potential for landslides in several points in South Jakarta and East Jakarta. The BPBD has urged community leaders, district heads, and the public to anticipate potential soil movements during above-normal rainfall in July 2025.
The Head of BPBD Jakarta, Isnawa Adji, stated that several areas in Jakarta are at risk of soil movements this month. He obtained this information based on an overlay of soil movement vulnerability zone maps and monthly rainfall forecast maps from the Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG).
According to Isnawa, the overlay results indicated that several areas are in the medium potential zone for landslides. "In the Medium Zone, soil movement can occur if rainfall is above normal, especially in areas adjacent to river valleys, ravines, road slopes, or if there are disturbances to the slopes," said Isnawa in a written statement on Friday, July 11, 2025.
Therefore, BPBD Jakarta has urged the public, district heads, and community leaders should actively check the conditions of their respective areas. "Especially those near river flows or with slopes and ravines," he said.
Isnawa mentioned other precautionary measures that can be taken, including creating self-made gabions or revetments if the soil is in a tilted or potentially movable condition. Gabions and revetments are part of simple soil retention and erosion prevention methods.
BPBD Jakarta also encourages communities to plant trees in vulnerable locations with minimal vegetation to prevent potential landslide hazards and minimize more serious impacts during heavy rains. "Disaster management must be comprehensive. It can be done through community self-help efforts or collectively," said Isnawa.
Isnawa revealed that several areas in the Jakarta Province are in the Medium Zone potential for landslides, namely:
1. South Jakarta
- Cilandak District
- Jagakarsa District
- Kebayoran Baru District
- Kebayoran Lama District
- Mampang Prapatan District
- Pancoran District
- Pasar Minggu District
- Pesanggrahan District
2. East Jakarta
- Kramat Jati District
- Pasar Rebo District.
