TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - LRT Jabodebek will start testing the implementation of new rules regarding bringing standard bicycles (non-folding bicycles) into the train on weekends. This trial is scheduled to begin on December 8, 2024.
The Public Relations Manager of LRT Jabodebek, Mahendro Trang Bawono, stated that the step is taken to support environmentally friendly mobility and provide convenience for LRT users. 'This trial is our initial step to accommodate standard bicycle users in LRT Jabodebek, especially on weekends. With these rules, we aim to ensure the comfort and safety of users' journeys without compromising the operational smoothness of LRT,' said Mahendro in an official statement received by Tempo on Monday, December 2, 2024.
According to him, this trial is aimed at preparing rules before they are fully implemented on weekend journeys and national holidays in the future. Mahendro stated that the allowed specifications for non-folding bicycles are a maximum length of 200 x 120 cm. For users bringing such bicycles, they can place them on the left side at each train door in the direction of LRT Jabodebek's journey.
'Each train is designed to accommodate a maximum of three non-folding bicycles. These rules are implemented to ensure mutual comfort and smoothness of the journey,' added Mahendro.
Currently, LRT Jabodebek users are already allowed to bring folding bikes with maximum dimensions of 100 x 40 x 30 cm or non-folding bicycles with a length not exceeding 90 cm. Other personal transportation devices, such as roller skates or small scooters, are also permitted as long as they meet the specified dimensions and are equipped with protectors to ensure the comfort of other passengers.
Furthermore, Mahendro mentioned that to support this trial, LRT Jabodebek has provided supporting facilities such as special gates for bicycles, lifts at each station, a designated area for folding bikes inside the train, a special bike lane on the stairs from the station plaza area to the concourse and from the concourse to the platform, and bike parking. Bike parking facilities and bike lanes on stairs are available at all LRT Jabodebek stations except Halim Station. 'Starting from December 8, we invite users to try out these facilities. We will monitor and evaluate their implementation to determine the next steps,' stated Mahendro.
The evaluation results of this trial will be the basis for comprehensive rule implementation. Mahendro said that this policy is expected to enhance user comfort and support a more environmentally friendly lifestyle.
