TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - A magnitude 3.9 earthquake jolted Ciamis and surrounding areas in West Java on Thursday afternoon, November 14, 2024. The Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency or BMKG reported that the epicenter was in the sea, 75 kilometers southwest of Pangandaran.
The earthquake struck at 17:10 Jakarta time. The epicenter was at a depth of 31 kilometers.
According to BMKG, the strongest shock from the earthquake was felt in Ciamis at level III of the MMI scale. At this magnitude, the shaking was felt inside the house, as if a truck was passing by.
Several other areas also felt the tremor at a lower intensity, including Garut and Tasikmalaya.
BMKG data showed that this was the second quake that occurred in Garut and Tasikmalaya in the last two days. On Wednesday, both were affected by a 5.2-magnitude earthquake centered at the sea southwest of Pangandaran (114 kilometers).
The earthquake struck on Wednesday morning at 08:41, with the epicenter at 27 kilometers. The strongest tremor was at level III of the MMI scale in Garut, Cianjur, Ciwidey, Tasikmalaya, and Pangandaran.
