TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung Wibowo urged city residents not to set off fireworks during New Year's Eve celebrations. This appeal was issued as a form of solidarity with the victims of the floods and landslides on Sumatra Island, which killed more than a thousand people.

"I have decided that for all areas of Jakarta, both government and private activities, we ask that there be no fireworks," Pramono said on Monday, December 22, 2025.

In response to the appeal, several malls in Jakarta decided not to hold fireworks displays on New Year's Eve. This step was taken as a form of empathy for the disaster victims.

Annisa Hazarini, Assistant Manager of Corporate Communications at Grand Indonesia, stated that her company respects the Jakarta Provincial Government's policy.

"We respect and support the policy regarding the cancellation of fireworks displays on New Year's Eve," Annisa Hazarini said, as reported by Antara, Wednesday, December 24, 2025. Annisa Hazarini added that the decision is also a form of concern for those affected by the disaster.

Plaza Indonesia management expressed a similar sentiment. Plaza Indonesia Marketing Communications and Public Relations Manager Tommy Utomo said, "We support it. Of course, we're celebrating Christmas and New Year, but we're also concerned about our brothers and sisters in Sumatra," said Tommy Utomo.

Several other malls in Jakarta, Depok, and Tangerang also announced the cancellation of fireworks displays via their social media accounts.

1. Lippo Mall Kemang

Lippo Mall Kemang canceled its Synchronized Fireworks as a show of empathy for the disaster victims. Instead, it held "Jungle Jingle – The Magical New Year Celebration" with live music and dance performances.

2. Summarecon Mall Kelapa Gading

Summarecon Mall Kelapa Gading announced that it would not be holding its Spectacular Fireworks on December 31, 2025, as a show of solidarity for the disaster in Sumatra. However, the mall will still hold its New Year's Eve Celebration with performances by artists such as Bernardya, Kahitna, Yovie & Nuno, and Arsy Widianto & DJ Nabila Hillary.

3. AEON Mall Jakarta Garden City

AEON Mall Jakarta Garden City decided to cancel the Fireworks Spectacular after considering visitor feedback and out of deep empathy. The New Year's celebration will continue with live music, FDJ performances, and special shopping programs.

4. Margo City Depok

Besides Jakarta, Margo City, a shopping center in Depok, has also canceled its Fireworks Show as part of its 2026 New Year's Celebration as a form of concern for disaster victims in various regions of Indonesia. However, the mall will still host musical performances by Tulus and Skastra, and a New Year's prayer will be held for communities affected by disasters in several regions of Indonesia, including Sumatra.

5. The Breeze BSD City

The Breeze BSD City, Tangerang, Banten, also announced that its fireworks display on December 31, 2025, will be canceled out of solidarity with the victims of natural disasters in Sumatra. The New Year's Eve celebration will still go ahead with performances by Juicy Luicy and DJ Melisa, as well as a light and laser show.

Even without fireworks, most malls still held alternative entertainment such as music shows and light shows to welcome the New Year 2026 in a simpler and more meaningful atmosphere.
