TEMPO.CO, JakartaMount Dukono in the northern part of Halmahera Island, North Maluku, erupted again today, Tuesday, November 26, 2024, at 09:43 a.m. local time. The observation post noted that the volcano had ejected volcanic ash as high as 4,600 meters.

"Observed to be thick, with greyish white color, leaning towards the northwest,” said Mount Dukono's Observation Post Officer, Bambang Sugiono, as quoted from Antara after the eruption.

According to seismogram data from the observation post in Mamuya Village, Galela District, the eruption was recorded with a maximum amplitude of 34 and a duration of 914 seconds.

Bambang mentioned that the eruption was still ongoing as the observation post personnel were writing the monitoring report. Mount Dukono is currently on alert status Level II.

Bambang urged residents and tourists not to engage in any activities within a three-kilometer radius of Mount Dukono’s crater, as it was still periodically spewing volcanic ash.

Residents on Halmahera Island are also advised to wear masks and goggles to avoid exposure to volcanic ash, especially when outside their homes.

"They are prohibited from approaching or entering the Malupang Warirang Crater within a three-kilometer radius," said Bambang.
