TEMPO.CO, Mataram - Several flights to and from Lombok Airport on Wednesday, November 13, 2024, were canceled due to volcanic ash from Mount Lewotobi Laki-Laki’s eruptions.
As of 2:30 p.m. local time today, 39 flights have been canceled, consisting of 33 domestic flights and 6 international flights. "The details are as follows: 18 domestic departures and 15 arrivals, and for international flights, 3 departures and 3 arrivals," said Lombok Airport's General Manager, Barata Singgih Riwahono.
The canceled domestic flights include those to and from Jakarta, Surabaya, Bali, Yogyakarta, Bima, and Sumbawa Besar.
The canceled international flights were to and from Kuala Lumpur and Singapore. Airlines serving the affected routes include Garuda Indonesia, Citilink, Pelita Air, Lion Air, Batik Air, Super Air Jet, Wings Air, AirAsia, and Scoot.
Despite several cancellations, some flights are still in operation, such as Citilink to and from Jakarta and Super Air Jet bound for Jakarta. Additionally, Lion Air flights to Balikpapan, Makassar, and Surabaya, as well as Garuda Indonesia flights to and from Jakarta, are still scheduled to fly in the evening.
The flight cancellations affected up to 3,980 passengers, consisting of 3,090 domestic passengers and 890 international passengers. "The data will continue to change as conditions evolve on the ground," Barata said.

Anticipating the current situation, PT Angkasa Pura I continues to communicate with airlines, BMKG (Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency), and the Airport Authority Office.
"We also urge prospective passengers to heed information from airlines regarding the current flight status concerning potential flight delays and cancellations in line with Mount Lewotobi’s volcanic activities," Barata said.
So far, the airport authorities have ensured that the airspace at Lombok Airport is not affected by volcanic ash from Mount Lewotobi’s eruptions. "Aerodrome observations with paper tests that we conduct every hour show negative results or no spread of volcanic ash from Mount Lewotobi in the airport area,” Barata said.
