TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Prime Minister Israel Benjamin Netanyahu on Monday night was taken to a safe and fortified area in a hospital in northern Israel. He was taken to a shelter as air raid sirens wailed amid the possibility of rocket attacks from Lebanon.
When the sirens sounded, Netanyahu was at the Hillel Yaffe Hospital in the city of Hadera to visit Israeli soldiers who were wounded. Several Israeli soldiers were injured in a Hezbollah drone strike on Sunday, October 13, 2024. The attack also killed four soldiers, according to the Israel Public Broadcasting Corporation KAN.
After the sirens wailed, Netanyahu was taken to a fortified hospital area. KAN noted that 41 soldiers injured in the Hezbollah drone strike were being treated at hospitals in northern Israel, including six in serious condition.
Following the attack, Israel, including Netanyahu and Defense Minister Yoav Gallant, vowed to retaliate against Hezbollah and Lebanon. Israel has launched massive air strikes across Lebanon, claiming to target Hezbollah since September 23, 2024. The attack has killed at least 1,542 people, injured over 4,555 others, and displaced more than 1.34 million people.
The air raid is an escalation from the year-long border-crossing war between Israel and Hezbollah since the start of the attack on Gaza Strip. Israel has killed almost 42,300 people, mostly women and children, since last year.
