The New England Patriots have been dealt a major blow with cornerback Marcellas Dial Jr. to miss the entire 2025 NFL season after tearing his ACL.

Dial Jr. was a sixth-round pick out of South Carolina in last year's NFL Draft and only started one game.

But the 24-year-old was a major contributor on special teams and had been impressing new head coach Mike Vrabel in training camp.

However, he suffered the devastating injury during Monday's training camp practice and was carted off the field.

Dial Jr.'s injury means the Patriots' depth at cornerback has become even more limited.

Expected starters Carlton Davis and Christian Gonzalez are also both dealing with injuries and have been unable to practice with just 33 days until their season opener against the Las Vegas Raiders.

Dial Jr. started his college football career at the Georgia Military College in 2019 but transferred to the South Carolina Gamecocks for the 2021 season.

He was chosen with the 180th overall pick in the sixth round of the NFL Draft.

As a rookie, Dial Jr. played special teams snaps in every game last year. He only got onto the field with the defense in three games.

The most came in the Week 18 victory over the Buffalo Bills, where he recorded five tackles.
