TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - A total of 1,797 people from 607 families were evacuated after a fire broke out in Kemayoran Gempol, Kemayoran, Central Jakarta, on Tuesday, January 21, 2025, at midnight.
Based on a report from the Jakarta Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD), the fire was suspected to have been caused by an electrical short circuit.
As many as 543 buildings from 11 RTs, or neighborhood units, were decimated in the fire.
Officers extinguished the fire at around 12:45 a.m. and continued to localize the fire at 05:29 a.m., and the cooling process at 6:00 a.m.
Some of the evacuation sites are places of worship, namely Mushola Al-Hasanah and Baiturrahman Mosque. Meanwhile, Head of Public Relations of Jakarta Metro Police Commissioner Ade Ary Syam Indradi said that children and women were evacuated to the Central Jakarta Police Office.
Based on the latest information, there’s no report of casualties in the fire. The fire incident was handled by 34 units of firefighters and joint personnel from several institutions.
As authorities are still gathering the data, the Jakarta BPBD is unable to confirm the total losses caused by the fire incident at the moment.
