TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Head of Traffic Law Enforcement Sub-Directorate of West Java Regional Police, Senior Commissioner Lalu Wira Sutriana, said the victims of a pile-up crash at Cipularang Toll Road KM 92 section in Bandung, West Java, are still in the process of evacuation.
“For now, one person died on the scene while others are injured. We cannot determine the severity of the injuries as they will be confirmed by the hospital," Wira said when contacted on Monday, November 11, 2024.
The victims will be taken to Abdul Rozak Hospital in Purwakarta, Wira confirmed. He mentioned that authorities are now focusing on victims' evacuation and rescue before securing the vehicles.
"The personnel at the scene are focused on ensuring that the victims can be promptly taken to the hospital. And after that, we will proceed with the evacuation of vehicles to unravel the traffic flow," he added.
The chain-reaction crash involving a truck transporter occurred at KM 92 of Cipularang Toll Road heading towards Jakarta on Monday, November 11, 2024, at 03:15 p.m. local time.
Senior Manager of Representative of Office 3 of Jasa Marga Metropolitan Tollroad Regional Division at Pasteur Toll Plaza, Agni Mayvinna, said police are still collecting the data on victims and the cause of the pile-up crash.
Agni said the traffic heading to Jakarta is closed temporarily. Personnel on the ground are conducting necessary traffic control, Agni said.
"The opposite lane has two lanes open for passage," Agni said in a statement. "Jasa Marga apologizes for the inconvenience caused by the incident and during the ongoing evacuation process." According to Jasa Marga, over 10 vehicles were involved in the accident.
