TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Indonesia-owned electricity company, PT Perusahaan Listrik Negara (Persero) or PLN, claims that the electricity system in the province of Aceh has fully recovered post the Sumatra floods in November 2025. This recovery is marked by the re-operation of 20 Main Substations (GI) in the province, known as the Mecca Veranda, so that the main electricity system returns to normal.
The President Director of PLN, Darmawan Prasodjo, stated that they continue to accelerate the recovery of electricity post-disaster until the electricity network is fully restored to the public. This step is also a follow-up to the instructions of President Prabowo Subianto.
"Now the electricity system in Aceh has recovered. All main substations are operating normally, supported by power plants and transmission that are back in operation. This is an important foundation so that electricity supply to the public can run stably," Darmawan said in a written statement on Saturday, December 20, 2025.
According to Darmawan, the recovery of the electricity system in Aceh is supported by an overall normalization on the generation and transmission side. He said a key milestone in the recovery is the re-operation of the Nagan Raya Steam Power Plant (PLTU), which ensures the optimal supply of electricity to all GIs in Aceh.
With the re-operation of all GIs normally, PLN will then focus its efforts on accelerating the recovery of the electricity distribution network to the public, especially in areas with geographical challenges and limited access.
Previously, PLN has operated the Nagan Raya Steam Power Plant, supported by adequate reserve systems to meet the electricity needs of the Aceh community. The operation of this power plant also optimizes the Nagan-Sigli transmission line as part of Aceh's electricity system.
PLN has also restored the Arun-Bireuen and Pangkalan Brandan-Langsa transmission networks, which are the main interconnection backbones of Sumatra-Aceh and were previously disconnected due to floods and landslides. With the main system back to normal and all GIs operational, electricity distribution to the distribution network is carried out gradually and with extreme caution.
Darmawan stated that every stage of recovery is carried out with a focus on public safety. "We ensure that the distribution normalization process is carried out gradually and safely, especially in areas that still have water or mud, so that the public can enjoy electricity comfortably," he said.
In addition, Darmawan ensured that PLN is committed to working with the Aceh community to improve electricity services and continuously monitor the reliability of the system until all customers can enjoy normal electricity supply. "For customers who are still without electricity, we continue to coordinate and ensure that customer installations are in a safe condition before electricity supply is restored," Darmawan said.
