TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Jakarta Metro Police chief Inspector General Karyoto said 141,605 joint personnel will be deployed to safeguard the Christmas and New Year holiday periods.
The joint personnel comprise 75,447 National Police personnel; 13,826 TNI (Indonesian armed forces) personnel; 52,332 personnel from related stakeholders; and an additional 67,030 military personnel to help.
“In total, there are 80,856 TNI personnel on alert for [Lilin Jaya Operation],” he said during a technical ceremony at the National Monument on Friday, December 20.
Karyoto explained that the potential for people’s mobility this year is projected to reach 110 million, a 2.83 percent increase compared to the previous year.
The Lilin Jaya Operation will last 13 days, from December 21 to January 2, 2025. The National Police also established 2,794 posts, consisting of 1,852 security posts, 735 community service posts, and 207 integrated posts spread throughout the region.
As many as 61,452 locations are objects for security, including churches, shopping centers, terminals, stations, ports, airports, tourist attractions, and New Year celebration sites.
The peak of holiday homecoming is expected to occur on December 21 and 28, 2024. While the peak of the return flow is predicted to occur on December 29, 2024, and January 1, 2025.
He also urged people who will travel during the holidays to leave their vehicles with local authorities or the police. “You are welcome to leave your vehicles, such as motorcycles and cars, with us,” he said.
Finally, Karyoto also advised people to be reserved in their change-of-year celebration and hold back from inviting vulnerable children to such events.
“In my opinion, the most important thing is to pray together and greet 2024 with a new president and a new spirit,” he said.
