TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Coach of the Indonesian U-20 national team, Indra Sjafri, considers his team's performance did not meeting expectations despite a big 4-0 win against India in the Mandiri U-20 Challenge Series 2025. "There are still many aspects that need to be evaluated, including some mistakes in defense," said Indra in a press conference after the match at Gelora Delta Stadium in Sidoarjo, Thursday night, January 30, 2025.
He also pointed out the forward line's inability to convert chances into goals. "However, we gained many benefits from this trial, and tonight we have determined the 23 players who will participate in the upcoming U-20 Asia Cup," he added.
According to the coach from West Sumatra, the coaching staff has evaluated the readiness of all players who participated in the Mandiri U-20 Challenge Series in Sidoarjo. "From all the players who competed in this trial, we tried to validate whether they are suitable for the composition in the Asia Cup," Indra explained.
He hopes to gather the coaching staff soon to prepare a report for the Indonesian Football Association (PSSI) upon their arrival in Jakarta. Indra intends to announce the 2025 U-20 Asia Cup squad on February 2 or 3, 2025. "Certainly, as soon as we arrive in Jakarta tomorrow, we will hold a meeting with the coaching staff and officials to announce or submit the names of the 23 best players to the PSSI secretariat," he said.
Meanwhile, Indonesian U-20 national team player Jens Raven expressed that the team had done their best to win 4-0 against India. "We are certainly very happy, but more importantly, at this moment we will focus on facing the Asia Cup," said the player born on October 12, 2005.
"This is part of our learning process, from player rotations to finding the best composition for the Asia Cup and even the U-20 World Cup," said the player who performed brilliantly in the match against India despite not scoring a goal.
