TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - President Prabowo Subianto has emphasized the key role of food self-sufficiency in controlling inflation, both at the national and regional levels. He is pushing for the realization of food self-sufficiency down to the district and sub-district levels, aligning with traditional Indonesian wisdom.
“Once again, the key is self-sufficiency, food self-sufficiency in a broad and comprehensive sense. Since ancient times, we have been taught that every village must have a food warehouse. So this is our grand strategy,” he said during the 2024 Inflation Control Coordination Meeting at Sasana Bhakti Praja, Ministry of Home Affairs, Jakarta, as quoted from an official release on Monday, December 9, 2024.
He commended several regions, such as South Sumatra Province, for implementing synchronized planting programs, which are aligned with the government's grand strategy to enhance national food security.
The President also highlighted the achievement of maintaining inflation below 3%, despite the global uncertainty. “I think we should be grateful that our inflation is below 3 percent. I think it is quite an achievement,” he remarked.
He further emphasized the importance of national unity and harmony in navigating these challenging times, warning against divisive forces that could undermine national stability.
“Indonesia is too strong, Indonesia is too wealthy, Indonesia is too large, and is always targeted for destruction. Food self-sufficiency and energy self-sufficiency are key to inflation control. Such breakthroughs are also very beneficial,” he said.
Prabowo further expressed optimism about Indonesia's ability to overcome economic challenges. He urged all stakeholders, particularly ministries and local governments, to continue innovating and implementing effective strategies to control inflation.
“Implement, continue, let's be grateful for controlled inflation, let's continue to maintain it. But the key in the future is production. I am optimistic. So let's prove that if we are responsive and approach the problem responsibly, I believe we can overcome it,” the President concluded.
