TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto held a hybrid remote meeting with several of his cabinet ministers on Tuesday, November 12, 2024. Prabowo attended via video conference from the United States as he was still on a state visit, while several cabinet ministers gathered at the National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB) building in Jakarta on Tuesday night.
Among those present at the meeting were Coordinating Minister for Human Development and Culture Pratikno, Coordinating Minister for Empowerment of Society Muhaimin Iskandar, Minister of Social Affairs Syaifullah Yusuf, Minister of Public Works and Settlement Areas Maruarar Sirait, Head of BNPB Lieutenant General TNI Suharyanto, TNI Commander General Agus Subiyanto, and Chief of the Indonesian National Police General Listyo Sigit Prabowo. Also noted present were Minister of Health Budi Gunadi Sadikin and State Secretary Minister Prasetyo Hadi.
The meeting started around 9:45 PM local time at the BNPB office in Jakarta to discuss the handling of the eruption disaster of Mount Lewotobi in East Flores, East Nusa Tenggara. This closed meeting lasted for an hour.
Coordinating Minister Pratikno stated that Prabowo wanted to receive the latest report on the current conditions of handling the Mount Lewotobi eruption. "We have reported in detail on how we are currently handling the emergency response situation," said Pratikno after the meeting at the BNPB office in Jakarta on Tuesday, November 12, 2024.
In addition, according to Pratikno, the cabinet ministers also reported on the post-disaster handling of the Mount Lewotobi eruption. Pratikno informed Prabowo that the central government has prepared rehabilitation support plans, housing construction, and economic recovery for affected residents.
"So even though the disaster has not ended, the rehabilitation and reconstruction have been prepared," said Pratikno.
During the meeting, Prabowo requested that his officials work seriously and cohesively to handle natural disasters. The central government, Pratikno said, was asked by Prabowo to directly provide assistance and serve the people.
"We are reminded to work seriously, work together to handle this issue," he said.
BNPB reported that the number of refugees caused by the eruption of Mount Lewotobi had reached 11,445 residents since the eruption began on Sunday, November 3, 2024, until the latest data as of Saturday, November 9, 2024. BNPB stated that the refugee numbers continue to increase due to the expansion of the danger sector zones of the eruption.
Previously, refugees were located in East Flores Regency and Sikka Regency. Both regencies were the main targets of the eruption due to their proximity, within a 9-kilometer radius from the active crater.
