TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto said that he learned a lot from Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi about poverty alleviation in India.
This was conveyed by Prabowo while attending a dinner by Indian President Droupadi Murmu with Modi at Rashtrapati Bhavan, New Delhi, India, Saturday, January 25, 2025.
"I came here for a few days, but I learned a lot from Prime Minister Modi's leadership and commitment," Prabowo said in his official statement on Sunday, January 26, 2025.
According to Prabowo, India is committed to reducing poverty and helping the weakest people. This commitment is a lesson for Prabowo.
"His commitment to reducing poverty, helping the marginalized, and helping the weakest people is an inspiration for us," said Prabowo.
The Head of State of the Republic of Indonesia said that he would commit to accelerating strategic cooperation between Indonesia and India in various fields including health, pharmaceuticals, education, maritime security, and digital technology.
In his remarks, Droupadi emphasized the importance of bilateral relations between Indonesia and India that have lasted for 75 years.
"Indonesia is our best friend. We share the same vision as a maritime population and partners in the Indo-Pacific region," he said.
He also thanked the President for accepting the invitation to attend the celebration of India's Republic Day as the Guest of Honor.
Droupadi recalled that 75 years ago, President Sukarno was the Guest of Honor on India's first Republic Day in 1950.
"This is a reflection of the long-standing relationship and strong democratic tradition between India and Indonesia," as written on the official account of X President of India, @rashtrapatibhvn.
Prabowo visited India on 23–26 January 2025 for a state visit and to attend as the chief guest of India's 76th Republic Day, Sunday, 26 January 2025.
Accompanying President Prabowo at the event were Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto, Minister of Foreign Affairs Sugiono, Minister of Culture Fadli Zon, Minister of Health Budi Gunadi Sadikin, Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Bahlil Lahadalia, Minister of Communication and Digital Meutya Hafid, Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya, and the Indonesian Ambassador to New Delhi Ina Krisnamurthi.
