TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - President Prabowo Subianto gathered several ministers of the Red and White Cabinet for a limited meeting at the Jakarta Presidential Palace on Tuesday afternoon, November 26, 2024.
Arriving at the Presidential Palace complex around 1:20 p.m., the Coordinating Minister for Food Affairs, Zulkifli Hasan, or Zulhas, confirmed there would be discussions on food availability in preparation for the 2024 Christmas and New Year holiday.
Minister of Agriculture Andi Amran Sulaiman, Head of the National Food Agency Arief Prasetyo, Minister of Trade Budi Santoso, Head of Bulog Wahyu Suparyono, and Finance Minister Sri Mulyani arrived at the Presidential Palace complex after Zulhas. They were brief in their remarks.
"We are ensuring that the (food) reserves remain safe ahead of Christmas and New Year,” said Minister Amran. "Rice is safe."
A few days prior, on Friday, the Coordinating Minister for Human Development and Culture, Pratikno, led a ministerial meeting in preparation for the 2024 Christmas & 2025 New Year holidays. Pratikno conveyed that he had held detailed discussions with ministers and relevant agency heads.
The government is anticipating the potential weather and hydrometeorological disasters currently affecting most parts of Indonesia. "We are discussing ways to ensure the flow of homecoming and return trips goes smoothly, safely, orderly, and comfortably, and that pilgrimage proceeds safely, smoothly, and devoutly," said Pratikno.
The former State Secretary Minister said the peak of the Christmas and New Year homecoming flow is expected to occur on December 24, 2024, while the peak of the return flow is predicted to take place on January 2, 2025.
The government pledges to prepare all infrastructure optimally in the land, sea, and air transportation sectors, including other supporting infrastructure, such as comfortable rest areas for children and the elderly.
The availability and affordability of basic necessities and tourist attractions were also part of the discussions. Pratikno explained that all levels of the central and regional governments will be conditioned to ensure everything runs smoothly.
