TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Member of the Executive Committee (Exco) of the Football Association of Indonesia (PSSI), Arya Sinulingga, said that PSSI has paid compensation for the dismissal of Indonesian National Team coach Shin Tae-yong amounting to tens of billions of rupiah.
Shin Tae-yong (STY) was dismissed from his coaching position on Monday, even though his contract will only end in 2027.
"From a financial perspective, tens of billions of rupiah that we have to pay (for compensation)... (the obligation) must also be taken," Arya told reporters in Jakarta, Tuesday.
Arya emphasized that the dismissal of the former South Korean national team coach had nothing to do with the football mafia as mentioned in a number of news reports.
According to Arya, if this dismissal had anything to do with the football mafia, then PSSI would have impossible taken the decision to dismiss STY and pay compensation worth tens of billions.
Arya said that PSSI took this step for the sake of the Red and White as well as an adjustment to the character of the players, the majority of whom are diaspora players from Europe.
This reason was one of the bases for PSSI's decision to look for a coach who has leadership in the dressing room and understands the character of the Garuda squad which grew up in Europe.
"The consequence of us taking diaspora players who are increasingly at a higher level... So we need a leader coach. Well, accompanied by a technically strong assistant coach. This has also been sought by Mr. Erick (Erick Thohir, PSSI General Chair)," said Arya.
The name of the former Dutch national team striker, Patrick Kluivert, surfaced in the discussion room after the famous Italian transfer expert, Fabrizio Romano, through his personal X account, tweeted that the 48-year-old man would coach the Garuda team.
