TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Ministry of Public Works stated that 12 bridges in Aceh have been functioning with emergency structures in an effort to restore connectivity after the Sumatra floods. Minister of Public Works Dody Hanggodo stated that maintaining connectivity is the government's top priority in the emergency disaster situation. Roads and bridges play a strategic role as the main drivers of community activities and logistics distribution.
"In a disaster situation, the most important thing is to ensure that access remains open so that the mobility of residents, humanitarian aid, and logistics distribution are not disrupted," Dody was quoted by Antara on Thursday, January 1, 2026.
The Ministry of Public Works continues to repair national bridges that were previously cut off due to flash floods in Aceh. Of the 16 bridges that have been addressed, as many as 12 bridges have already returned to function at existing locations, albeit still using temporary structures.
The Ministry of Public Works expedited its response to the emergency in Aceh through the National Road Implementation Agency (BPJN), employing various methods, including the installation of Bailey bridges and the use of alternative roads. This approach allows for continued functional access while awaiting permanent bridge repairs. As a result, inter-regional connectivity, community mobility, and logistics distribution can continue.
The twelve national bridges that have resumed function include the Kreung Tingkeum Bridge, which is located in Bireuen City on the Bireuen-North Aceh border (Eastern Crossing). A 63-meter-long Bailey bridge was installed at the damaged section and has been functional since December 27, 2025, with the Awe Geutah alternative route having been functional since December 18, 2025.
Furthermore, the Alue Kulus Bridge in the Bireuen-Bener Meriah-Central Aceh Border section serves as a connecting bridge. The emergency response was carried out on the half-road embankment, which allowed the emergency bridge to become operational again on December 18, 2025.
The Kreung Rongka Bridge in the Bireuen-Bener Meriah-Central Aceh Border section (Central Crossing). The handling was done through embankment and installation of box culverts. It has been functional since December 21, 2025.
The Weihni Lampahan Bridge is a reinforced concrete box culvert bridge built in 1979, located on the Bireuen-Bener Meriah-Central Aceh connecting section. Emergency response was carried out through embankment and has been functional since December 19, 2025.
The Wehni Rongka Bridge, located in the Bireuen-Bener Meriah-Central Aceh connecting section, is a 35-meter, single-span, steel-frame bridge that was built in 1992. An emergency response was carried out by creating a detour route next to the existing bridge using embankments and box culverts. This detour route has been open since December 24, 2025.
The Timang Gajah Bridge in the Bireuen-Bener Meriah-Central Aceh Border section. Emergency response was carried out by creating a detour route using embankments, steel plates, and wood, reopening the access since December 24, 2025.
The other six bridge locations that were previously cut off have also been accessible on an emergency basis, such as the Kreung Meureudu Bridge, Simamora II Bridge, Lawe Mengkudu I Bridge, Lawe Penanggalan Bridge, Krueng Pelang Bridge, and Teupin Mane Bridge.
