TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Russian President Vladimir Putin has extended New Year greetings to Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto and other leaders of friendly nations.
"Vladimir Putin sends his best wishes for the upcoming Christmas and New Year in 2026 to the heads of state and governments of foreign countries, including President of the Republic of Indonesia, Prabowo Subianto," as stated in a written statement from the Russian presidency on the Kremlin's website accessed on Tuesday, December 30, 2025, as quoted by Antara.
In addition to Prabowo, Putin's greetings were also extended to dozens of other world leaders, including President Xi Jinping of China, President Donald Trump of the United States, President Recep Tayyip Erdogan of Turkey, the leader of North Korea, Kim Jong Un, President Nicolas Maduro of Venezuela, and President Cyril Ramaphosa of South Africa.
Putin also conveyed Christmas and New Year greetings to the leader of the Catholic Church, Pope Leo XIV.
Putin and Prabowo have met twice this year.
First, during the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF) in Russia on June 18-20, and secondly on December 10 at the Kremlin Palace in Moscow, after the Indonesian President completed his visit to Islamabad, Pakistan.
In their latest meeting, Prabowo stated that the Russia-Indonesia relationship had developed very consistently this year, which also coincided with the 75th year of diplomatic relations between the two countries.
Prabowo invited Putin to visit Indonesia, an invitation that the Russian president appreciated.
"Thank you very much. I will definitely come. With pleasure, thank you very much," said Putin, as quoted by RIA Novosti.
