TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Hashim Djojohadikusumo, the head of the Housing Task Force, said many countries are keen to invest in the Prabowo-led 3 million housing program.
"President Prabowo's housing program will receive funding from Abu Dhabi, Qatar, China, India, and Singapore," he said during the Nusantara TV: CEO Awards 2024 event held in South Jakarta, Wednesday, December 4, 2024.
Hashim said he’s optimistic about the future of the Indonesian construction sector and the 3 million housing program. One of the contributing factors, he said, is the existence of the Housing and Settlements Ministry which specifically handles housing concerns.
"There are quite a few countries interested in investing in Prabowo’s government’s social housing program. I’m sure they will follow through,” he said.
The Gerindra Party politician also claimed that the 3 million housing program will create five to six million new job opportunities. Rural house construction, he said, requires a minimum of four to five million workers. One housing unit requires four to five construction workers.
Meanwhile, he believes that urban apartment construction requires hundreds of thousands of new workers. "Meaning, we can accommodate about five to six million new jobs,” he said.
The 3 million housing program targets the construction of 2 million housing units in rural areas and 1 million houses in urban areas. To run the program, Prabowo created the new Ministry of Housing and Settlement Areas, led by Maruarar Sirait.
Recently, Ara has partnered with entrepreneurs to construct housing units, including Sugianto Kusuma of the PT Agung Sedayu Group, which has been tasked to build 250 housing units in Sukawali Village, Pakuhaji District.
The groundbreaking was carried out on Friday, November 1, 2025. In this project, Aguan has invested Rp 60 billion through funds provided by the Corporate Social Responsibility, or CSR, program.
Recently, Ara also mentioned that the entrepreneur and owner of PT Alamtri Resources—formerly known as PT Adaro Energy—Garibaldi Thohir, also known as Boy Thohir, will build public housing in South Kalimantan.
Meanwhile, PT Berau Coal is authorized to build housing units in East Kalimantan. "Why are they building [the houses] there? Because they have mines there," Ara said on Thursday, November 28, 2024.
When confirmed after a working meeting with Commission V on Tuesday, December 3, Ara could not yet confirm the date of the groundbreaking ceremony nor the number of housing units that will be constructed.
