TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Her Majesty Queen Maxima of the Netherlands arrived in Indonesia on Monday evening, November 24, 2025, for a four-day working visit aimed at promoting financial health and resilience across the archipelago. The Queen is traveling in her capacity as the UN Secretary-General’s Special Advocate for Financial Health (UNSGSA).

The UNSGSA’s agenda includes engagements with financial service users, government representatives, development organizations, financial institutions, and businesses across the fintech and corporate sectors. This strategic shift from focusing solely on financial inclusion to financial health emphasizes consumers’ ability to manage daily finances, withstand economic shocks, and plan for the future.

Central Java Focuses on Workers and Entrepreneurs

On Tuesday, November 25, Queen Maxima commenced her schedule with field visits around Surakarta (Solo), Central Java. At a local garment factory, she met with staff participating in the Reimagining Industries to Support Equality (RISE) program. This initiative, backed by major international clothing brands, aims to bolster the financial health of garment and shoe industry workers. Employees receive electronic salary payments, which streamlines bill management, along with essential training in budgeting and saving.

Subsequently, the Queen visited a traditional batik workshop where she engaged with women entrepreneurs. The fintech company Amartha provides crucial support to these women by offering a digital platform for micro-loans, small investments, and online banking via a user-friendly application. Amartha also furnishes the women with training in necessary financial and digital skills.

Concluding the day in Central Java, the Queen participated in a session organized by Women's World Banking. Here, she engaged in dialogue with young individuals, students, entrepreneurs, and an influencer to discuss their direct experiences with existing financial products and services.

Jakarta Agenda: Policy, Housing, and Corporate Responsibility

Queen Maxima’s Wednesday agenda in Jakarta began with a roundtable talk at a local UN office, convening representatives from various development organizations. This was followed by a visit to the International Finance Corporation (IFC), a member of the World Bank Group, to discuss the development of loans that specifically drive economic growth while simultaneously improving financial health metrics.

Next, she traveled outside Jakarta to the Gran Harmoni Cluster Housing project, a residential development offering low-emission homes to low- and medium-income buyers. Bank Tabungan Negara (BTN) facilitates home ownership here by offering affordable mortgages and insurance packages. The Queen met several homeowners and attended a session where first-time buyers formally signed their mortgage agreements.

In the afternoon, the Queen visited Deloitte to converse with employers about how companies can proactively contribute to the financial health of both their employees and clients. Later, she attended a session hosted by the Mastercard Center for Inclusive Growth, where she spoke with CEOs about developing specialized insurance and savings programs designed to help citizens cope with financial setbacks.

Final Discussions on Regulation and Resilience

On her final day, Thursday, November 27, Queen Máxima participated in the National Financial Health Event, organized by the national financial services supervisory authority, OJK. She joined a roundtable discussion dedicated to scam prevention and promoting the secure use of digital financial services. She also conducted meetings with government ministers to discuss national policy and regulations designed to strengthen household financial health, in addition to speaking with OJK representatives. The plenary session of the event featured Queen Máxima in a fireside chat focused on the future of financial health in Indonesia.

Throughout her visit, the Queen is scheduled to meet with President Prabowo Subianto to convey her findings and observations from the three-day tour. This marks Queen Máxima's fourth visit to Indonesia in her capacity as a UN Special Advocate, having previously focused on inclusive finance for development in 2012, 2016, and 2018. She also champions financial health in the Netherlands as honorary chair of the National Financial Health Coalition.
