TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Reddit—a U.S.-based news aggregation website, discussion space, and content rating—is currently testing an artificial intelligence-powered feature called Reddit Answers. As quoted from a report by Reuters on Monday, December 9, 2024, this feature scours through all posts ever made on Reddit to answer user questions.
"Once a question is asked, curated summaries of relevant conversations and details across Reddit will appear, including links to related communities and posts," as stated officially by Reddit management.
The AI feature aims to simplify the search for information that has been uploaded on Reddit, as well as help Reddit compete better with search engine rivals and AI startups such as ChatGPT-maker OpenAI and Perplexity that source information from across the web.
Reddit Answers will initially only be available in English and limited to some users in the U.S. This AI feature will gradually be expanded to other countries and languages.
Founded in 2005, Reddit is now managed by Advance Publications, an independent subsidiary of Condé Nast Publications. On March 21, 2024, Reddit went public on the New York Stock Exchange under the ticker symbol RDDT.
Reddit users join communities that match their interests. They can share content and discuss various topics, ranging from culinary and technology to political developments.
Until September 30, or the end of the third quarter of 2024, the daily active visitors to Reddit increased by 47 percent compared to the previous year, reaching 97.2 million. The average global revenue per user (ARPU) of Reddit also increased by 14 percent from last year.
