TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Recently, rumors have been circulating about the Shell-owned gas stations that will be closed in Indonesia. The rumors surfaced due to its association with the retail fuel distribution business in Indonesia.
However, the vice president of corporate relations at Shell Indonesia Susi Hutapea refuted the rumors.
"Shell Indonesia announces that the circulating information regarding Shell's plan to close all gas stations in Indonesia is incorrect," said Susi Hutapea in Jakarta on Sunday, November 24, 2024, as quoted by Antara.
When asked further about the market speculation, Shell declined to comment. "We cannot comment on market speculation. Shell Indonesia continues to focus on gas station operations for our customers," she said.
Based on data from Shell's official website, the oil and gas company involved in upstream and downstream businesses has a network of over 170 gas stations in Indonesia. Currently, Shell has a lubricants plant in Marunda, Jakarta, to support its downstream business.
Shell also has a fuel storage terminal in Gresik, East Java. Shell's parent company, Shell Plc, is a company incorporated in England and Wales.
