TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Indonesian government has announced that November 27, 2024, the voting day of the Simultaneous Regional Elections, or Pilkada, will be designated as a national holiday.
“Yes, that's the plan. I intend to coordinate with my colleagues and the Minister of Home Affairs on this matter,” confirmed State Secretary Minister Prasetyo Hadi on Friday, November 8, at Halim Perdanakusuma Air Force Base, Jakarta, as reported by Antara.
He stated that he would soon initiate discussions with the General Election Commission (KPU) and Home Affairs Minister Tito Karnavian to finalize the details of the national holiday designation.
Prasetyo also expressed hope for a smooth conduct of the Simultaneous Regional Elections. “We’ll see. This is indeed the first simultaneous regional election for all provinces and districts. Let's pray for a smooth process,” he said.
At the 2024 National Coordination Meeting of Central and Regional Governments in Sentul yesterday, November 7, 2024, KPU Chair Mochammad Afifuddin assured the public of the agency’s readiness for the 2024 Simultaneous Regional Elections. The elections, scheduled for November 27, are already 99% prepared.
Meanwhile, Afifuddin mentioned that the KPU has already prepared all the necessary logistics for the election. In fact, on the same day, the KPU simultaneously inaugurated polling station working groups (KPPS) across Indonesia.
The 2024 Simultaneous Regional Elections will involve 37 provinces, 415 districts, and 93 cities. A total of 1,557 candidate pairs will be competing, comprising 1,169 regent and deputy regent pairs and 285 mayor and deputy mayor pairs.
