TEMPO.CO, JakartaIndonesia's state-owned food holding company, ID Food, is supplying raw materials for the free nutritious meal program, as confirmed by its president director Sis Apik Wijayanto.

ID Food currently supplies raw materials to a number of Nutritious Meal Service Units (SPPGs) in Tangerang, Bandung, Bogor, and Palu. It is possible that, in the future, the state-owned holding will expand its service to 190 public kitchens across Indonesia.

“As the scale of the program continues to grow, we will also increase the supply volume and expand distribution points through cooperation with the foundations and cooperatives that manage the public kitchens,” Sis Apik said through a written statement on Wednesday, January 22, 2025.

ID Food currently supplies salt, sugar, rice, cooking oil, wheat flour, and soy sauce for the free nutritious meal program. Sis Apik said the company plans to expand the supply to eggs and poultry.

“The eggs and poultry will be 100 percent produced by local farmers,” said Sis Apik, stating that ID Food will work with farmers in various regions across the country to fulfill the demand.

Presidential Communications Office (PCO) Spokesperson Philips J. Vermonte previously said that state-owned enterprises (SOEs) could participate in funding the free nutritious meal program in a few years time.

“Once it’s developed in a few years, people and private sectors may participate [in funding],” Philips told reporters after monitoring the program implementation at a school on Tuesday, January 21.

The free meal program, he explained, is not envisioned in a multi-year plan, but in multi-decades. Hence, the source of the funding will be expanded after a few years. “The local economies, citizen support, corporations, or even SOEs,” he said.
