The State to Cover All Needs of People's School Students, Minister Says

7 hours ago 14

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesia's Social Minister Saifullah Yusuf stated that the state will cover all needs of people's school students throughout their education. He mentioned that every student in public school will receive complete facilities related to learning and daily necessities.

He gave examples of these facilities, including eight sets of school uniforms such as formal attire, daily uniforms, and sleepwear. "Then they will stay in dormitories, provided with housing in a decent, comfortable, and clean environment," said the Social Minister during the opening of the introduction period as monitored through the Ministry of Social Affairs' YouTube channel on Monday, July 14, 2025.

However, Saifullah asked for understanding from the public as the provision of these facilities could not be distributed to all students simultaneously on the first day yesterday. He ensured that the provision of the eight sets of uniforms is still ongoing and will be completed within two to three weeks. "Because there is still a procurement process, and there are also measurements and so on," he said.

Not only uniforms, students who live in public school dormitories will also receive nutritious meals three times a day with an additional two snacks. Additionally, students will receive learning facilities, such as one laptop per individual. "There is support for digital learning, using digital whiteboards, and each student receives a laptop as a learning medium in the Learning Management System (LMS)," said Gus Ipul, Social Minister's familiar nickname.

The first phase of this education program, initiated by Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto, is attended by a total of 6,000 students with 256 study groups from elementary, junior high, to high school levels. Out of the 100 targets that will operate in this phase, 63 schools have already started while the remaining 37 will follow at the end of the month. This number will continue to increase to 200 schools by the end of 2025.

Among the tens of schools that have started the orientation period are three schools in Jakarta, namely Pusdiklatbangprof Kemensos Margaguna South Jakarta, Sentra Handayani and Sentra Mulya Jaya East Jakarta.

In West Java, there are 13 pilot points such as STPL Bekasi, Sentra Phalamarta Sukabumi, Sentra Abiyoso Cimahi, PSBR UPT Social Affairs Cibabat, Sentra Wyataguna Bandung (Padjajaran and Cisarua Lembang).

Additionally, the Bandung Polytechnic of Social Welfare, Sentra Galih Pakuan Bogor, Sentra Terpadu Inten Soeweno Cibinong, SMPN 18 Cirebon City, Social Welfare Training Center Bandung Lembang, UPTD Job Training Center in Sumedang, and facilities in the SOR Jalak Harupat Complex.
