TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Former Trade Minister Tom Lembong said he accepted the South Jakarta District Court’s dismissal of his pretrial motion. The man whose full name is Thomas Trikasih Lembong now remains a suspect in the alleged sugar import corruption case of sugar import in 2015-2016.

"Of course, we are disappointed with the South Jakarta District Court’s decision to reject our pretrial lawsuit. God has decided that this process should continue, and I accept this duty with an open heart," wrote Tom Lembong through his personal Instagram account on Wednesday, November 27, 2024.

This former Head of the Investment Coordinating Board (BKPM) said he will continue to strive to reveal the truth and uphold justice. He also said he would continue to love Indonesia.

"My resolve to dedicate my life to the nation and the state has solidified," said Tom Lembong.

Tom Lembong thanked his legal team and the people who continuously defended him, stating that they had fought for the truth, goodness, and justice. He also thanked the members of the House of Representatives and Regional Representatives Council who questioned his suspect designation.

Tom Lembong was one of the most prominent supporters of Anies Baswedan during the recent presidential election. He expressed gratitude to his family, quoting his wife, Ciska Wirahahardja, "I believe that God is always with us."

In the Instagram account managed by his team, Tom Lembong also extended his congratulations on the 93rd birthday of his mother today.

The Attorney General's Office has named Tom Lembong as a suspect in the sugar import corruption case estimated to have caused state losses of around Rp400 billion. The state loss stems from the potential profit that should have been received by the Indonesian Trading Company (PT PPI) as a state-owned enterprise.

Tom Lembong was among several ministers who also implemented sugar imports. Throughout Joko Widodo’s two five-year terms, he appointed six trade ministers: Rachmad Gobel, Tom Lembong, Enggartiasto Lukita, Agus Suparmanto, Muhammad Lutfi, and Zulkifli Hasan.

However, the Attorney General's Office declined to investigate the other ministers, claiming it to be irrelevant to the case at hand.

"Probing the other five Trade Ministers has no relation to the applicant's designation as a suspect," said AGO representative Teguh A., in Tom Lembong’s pretrial verdict at the South Jakarta District Court on Tuesday.
