Trump Vows Expedited Permits for Investors of US$1bn in U.S.

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - President-elect Donald Trump pledges to fully expedite approvals and permits for individuals or companies investing in at least US$1 billion in the United States.

Through a post on Truth Social, Trump stated that approvals and permits will be fully accelerated and that environmental approvals are included as part of that investment incentive.

“Any person or company investing ONE BILLION DOLLARS, OR MORE, in the United States of America, will receive fully expedited approvals and permits, including, but in no way limited to, all Environmental approvals. GET READY TO ROCK!!!” Trump wrote as cited by CNBC.

The details of Trump's proposal remain unclear. His transition team has yet to provide specific information regarding which rules or regulations will be reduced to facilitate fully accelerated approvals or permits.

The timing of Trump's message on Tuesday is also still unclear. However, earlier that day, the U.S. Supreme Court heard arguments in a dispute concerning federal environmental reviews for a proposed oil train route in Utah.

As reported by Reuters, Trump's transition team is currently developing a package of measures to be implemented shortly after his inauguration on January 20, 2025. This package is expected to include the approval of export permits for liquefied natural gas (LNG) projects and an increase in oil drilling activities on federal lands and offshore U.S. waters.

The mechanism by which Trump intends to address the authority of independent commissions such as the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission, which recently mandated additional environmental reviews for LNG projects, remains uncertain. Trump's transition team did not immediately respond to requests for comment on this matter.
