TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Two unmanned aerial vehicles or drones once again identified crossing from Lebanon to Israel following sirens sounding in Upper Galilee, said the Israeli military in a statement on Wednesday morning, October 16, 2024. There were no casualties due to the drone's entry.
The military said a pair of drones from Lebanon struck northern Israel, after sirens sounded in a pair of northern cities near the border. IDF also said sirens were activated in Ya'ara just before midnight due to concerns about interceptors fired missile fragments. The aerial attack mistakenly identified the target.
This penetration of two drones from Lebanon was not the first time. Last week, the Israeli military said two drones from Lebanon were detected on Friday night following sirens in central Israel.
The military successfully intercepted one unmanned aerial vehicle. Both drones had been monitored since crossing the Lebanon border, said the military in a statement. However, a building in Herzliya sustained some damage, said the Israeli military and police in separate statements.
There has been no direct comment from the armed group in Lebanon, Hezbollah, regarding the drone attack.
The conflict between Israel and Hezbollah erupted a year ago when the Iran-backed group began launching rockets towards northern Israel to support the Hamas Palestinian militant group, at the beginning of the Gaza war. The war has intensified in recent weeks.
Israel has bombed southern Lebanon, the southern outskirts of Beirut, and the Bekaa Valley, killing many senior Hezbollah leaders. Israel has also sent ground troops across the border. Hezbollah itself has fired rockets further into Israel.
