TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The International Federation of Association Football (FIFA) released its latest rankings on Thursday, July 10, 2025. So, how do Southeast Asian (ASEAN) countries rank?
Indonesia, Laos, and Malaysia recorded notable improvements, while Vietnam and Thailand saw declines. Indonesia moved up five places from 123 to 118 with 1,155 points.
This increase was driven by Indonesia's results in two June matches: a 1-0 win over China and a 0-6 loss to Japan in the third round of the 2026 World Cup qualifiers.
Laos also climbed five spots, from 190 to 185, following their 2-1 victory over Nepal in the second leg of Group F during the third round of the 2027 Asia Cup qualifiers.
Malaysia recorded the biggest jump among ASEAN nations, rising six spots from 131 to 125 with 1,138.48 points.
In contrast, Vietnam and Thailand, long considered regional powerhouses, dropped in the standings. Thailand fell three positions to 102 with 1,222.07 points, while Vietnam dropped four to 113 with 1,169.92 points.
Other ASEAN nations such as the Philippines, Singapore, Myanmar, and Cambodia also moved up slightly. Brunei Darussalam and Timor Leste remain near the bottom of the regional standings.
