TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Raka has announced that Nvidia, the U.S.-based leading technology company specializing in graphics processing units (GPUs), will invest in several Indonesian cities, including Solo. The company plans to establish an AI school in Solo, as revealed by Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang during a visit on November 14, 2024.
“We had received a visit from the CEO of Nvidia, and he will invest in several cities, including Solo, where an AI school will be established,” Gibran said during a speech at the Tanwir I of the Central Board of Muhammadiyah Youth in Central Jakarta on Thursday, November 21, 2024.
Gibran said that the AI school in Solo presents an opportunity for young Indonesians to acquire valuable skills in the field of artificial intelligence. The son of the 7th President Joko Widodo or Jokowi reiterated the vision of a golden Indonesia, highlighting the crucial role of education in achieving this goal.
“We are fortunate to have a demographic bonus, but this is a one-time opportunity. It won’t come again,” Gibran stressed.
The VP also urged Minister of Primary and Secondary Education Abdul Mu'ti to introduce coding and AI subjects into the elementary and junior high school curriculum. This initiative aligns with President Prabowo's vision of digitalization.
Minister Mu’ti has confirmed that the ministry plans to incorporate coding and AI as optional subjects in the upcoming curriculum reform. However, he noted that the implementation of these subjects will depend on the availability of adequate facilities and infrastructure in schools.
