TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Deputy President Director of PT Garuda Indonesia Tbk (GIAA) Thomas Sugiarto Oentoro said dozens of the carrier's aircraft remain grounded, both from Citilink and Garuda.
"There are approximately 34 aircraft that are still grounded," he said during a virtual public presentation on Thursday, November 27, 2025.
Garuda Indonesia currently operates 58 aircraft out of a total fleet of 72, while Citilink operates 31 out of 56.
Thomas also mentioned that the management of Garuda Indonesia is currently discussing a business merger plan with Pertamina's airline Pelita Air. He stated that Garuda and the sovereign wealth fund Danantara are still evaluating this process.
"We are conducting a study and reviewing several options. I cannot provide detailed information because this is what we are currently working on," he said.
On Wednesday, November 12, 2025, Garuda received a capital injection of Rp23.67 trillion from PT Danantara Asset Management (DAM). This decision was approved at the Extraordinary General Meeting of Shareholders (EGMS) held at the Auditorium of the Garuda Indonesia Management Building in Tangerang on Wednesday, November 12, 2025.
Of this capital, around Rp8.7 trillion (37 percent) will be used for Garuda Indonesia's working capital needs, such as aircraft maintenance and upkeep. Meanwhile, Rp14.9 trillion (63 percent) is allocated to support Citilink's operations, consisting of Rp11.2 trillion for working capital and Rp3.7 trillion for settling fuel purchase obligations to Pertamina for the period 2019-2021.
