TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesia’s state railway operator, PT Kereta Api Indonesia (Persero) or KAI, reported that train occupancy has reached 83 percent during the Christmas 2025 and New Year 2026 travel period (Nataru). The figure is based on 3.5 million tickets sold for the holiday season.
“The travel peak is expected on December 28, with the return flow on January 3 and 4,” KAI President Director Bobby Rasyidin said during a press conference at Gambir Station, Jakarta, on Tuesday, December 23, 2025.
Bobby emphasized that KAI continues to prioritize passenger safety, security, and high-quality service, with punctuality remaining a key focus.
For the 2025/2026 Nataru period, KAI has made 3,506,104 tickets available for long-distance and local trains across Indonesia, with the highest demand on Java.
Coordinating Minister for Infrastructure and Regional Development Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono (AHY) noted that the government had offered a 30 percent discount on transportation tickets, benefiting 1.5 million passengers. AHY also urged KAI staff to maintain excellent service standards.
“We prioritize safety, but we must not neglect punctuality,” he said.
During his visit to Gambir Station, AHY personally inspected platforms and the Cakrabuana Train bound for Cirebon. Fifteen minutes before departure, he greeted passengers and posed for photos. At 10:50 AM, AHY symbolically signaled the train’s departure as the official Train Departure Officer by blowing a long whistle.
